Working Together: DSL Training (formerly Level 3)

 

INTRODUCTION:

This is a safeguarding training course suitable for staff in any organisation with the responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), offered by Lisa Hatcher and Hilary McDermott, NSPCC-accredited trainers and safeguarding leads at the Eden Academy Trust.

 

AIMS: 

To revise knowledge concerning abuse, up to date child care legislation and guidance, and to encourage reflective practice 

To ensure commitment to putting children and young people and their rights at the heart of the safeguarding process  

To be familiar with the role and responsibilities of the DSLs in our organisation, including supporting staff, confidentiality and record keeping

To increase understanding between professionals regarding their roles and responsibilities throughout the safeguarding process 

To increase confidence and understanding of working together, information sharing and the challenges of effective inter-agency safeguarding work

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

FACILITATORS:

Lisa Hatcher, NSPCC-accredited trainer and safeguarding lead at the Eden Academy Trust.

Lisa Hatcher is the Service Manager for Families and Safeguarding at the Eden Academy Trust. Her role involves ensuring the delivery of a core offer of extended opportunities to pupils within the Trust. Family Services also offers extensive parent courses and workshops supported by a range of professionals. As one of the Safeguarding Leads, Lisa is also responsible for leading and promoting excellent safeguarding practice across the Trust as well as providing staff training across the schools.

Lisa has worked within the Trust for 15 years including working within the Early Years class at Grangewood as the Pre School Co-ordinator, where she first developed the idea of offering extended opportunities for children and support sessions for families. Lisa is an active member of Friends of Grangewood (FOG) and has held the position of secretary for 6 years. She is also the secretary and a trustee for Friends of Moorcroft (FROMS).

As well as being an NSPCC-accredited trainer she is also an accredited Triple P provider. 

Lisa is a member of the local authority Autism Partnership board and the CAMHS Learning Disabilities and Short Breaks forums.

 

Hilary McDermott, NSPCC-accredited trainer and safeguarding lead at the Eden Academy Trust.

Hilary McDermott is currently Associate Head of School, providing support to Heads across the Eden Academy Trust. Hilary was previously the Head of School at Grangewood School between 2011 and 2018.

Hilary has over 19 years' experience of teaching and learning in primary, secondary and adult sectors, in curriculum co-ordination, and with a particular specialism in SLD, ASD and PMLD.

Hilary is also an NSPCC-accredited trainer in Safeguarding and Child Protection and has extensive experience of multi-agency work with Social Care, Health and other external agencies.
